Chevy Chase, D.C., is one of the most well-known suburban-style neighborhoods in the city, characterized by manicured lawns, handsome single-family houses from the early decades of the 20th century, and proximity to many of the city’s commercial areas on nearby Connecticut and Wisconsin Avenues. Like many neighborhoods in the city, it was primarily farmland at the end of the 19th century, becoming a popular destination with the advent of streetcars in the early 20th century. Architectural styles found here are mostly Four Squares, Arts and Crafts, Colonial and Tudors Revivals, Cape Cods, and the occasional Victorian.
